Today would have been Andrew’s birthday. No words for how much I miss my dear sweet friend every day.
I made this image of Andrew a few months before he passed away. It’s part of my series The Fragmentation of Language and is made on 4x5 sheet film. I remember every second of concepting, planning, shooting, and printing this photograph. It was a very cathartic process for me and is one of my favorite images I’ve made. This series speaks to the idea that ultimately there is a limitation (or fragmentation) that occurs with language and human interaction that prohibits us from fully understanding one another. There is information that is lost in translation due to the inherent nature of the human condition and experience.
